Ninja tossing stars are really called shuriken. The Japanese composed characters for the word shuriken consist of (hand), (release), (blade), for the rather literal description of "hand launched blade." Shuriken has actually also been translated and described as "hand covert blade". Historically, there were two basic blade styles. were straight spike-like blades with either a couple of pointed ends, which would vary in size from brief needles to broad knives.
